We hope you will please join us for “Territorial Days,” the Delta Cultural Center’s commemorative celebration of the bi-centennial of the “Arkansaw” Territory. It is an outdoor event that will include arts and crafts, living history re-creations, musical performances, traditional games, dancing, and shooting of period firearms. It will take place Saturday, March 2 from 10AM-3PM on the commons across from our Visitors’ Center (141 Cherry Street, Helena, AR 72342).
In honor of the War of 1812 veterans who settled and/or exchanged their land warrants for Arkansas’s Delta wetlands, we have commissioned the Clemson’s Company, the 1st U.S. Infantry re-enactors to set up a camp. They will re-enact camp discipline, medical treatment, drill, and fire off their flintlock pistols and muskets and cannon. Their fife player and drummer will play tunes used in military formation and others popular during the era. Staff from Arkansas Post National Memorial will also have a presence demonstrating life at a remote trading post complete with the inter-cultural exchange that unfolded at the site. Also visitors can engage with a replica antebellum keelboat, native animals brought by the Natural Educational Company of the Mid-South, and different human cultures such Native American games/music and the African inspired dance.
